But when she arrives at his estate on the remote Lake Michigan island, she gets the feeling that she's not entirely welcome--and a warning note in her bedroom gives her proof in black and white.

On an excursion to the mainland, Susan discovers a local merchant selling a valuable book that belongs in the Clayton collection.
