1618, London.

The court of King James I.

Tom Warner, a lieutenant in the King's Guard, serves as Governor of the Tower of London, where he lives with his son Edward.

When Walter Raleigh returns to London from his international voyages in search of new lands, a new world is opened before Warner's eyes.

King James has grown tyrannical. His rule is despotic, causing religious unrest â€" enough to encourage some to seek a new home abroad.

As Tom settles in the countryside, the Earl of Warwick and his friend John Winthrop approach him with an idea: to set sail across the Atlantic and found a new colony in the West.

Thus begins a journey of courageous endeavour, voyaging boldly across the seas in search of a new frontier to conquer.

Or simply a new world where every man can live free of oppression.

But when Tom and Edward eventually run aground in what is later dubbed the Caribbean, things are not so idyllic.

Running out of food, and running into natives of the Caribbean islands, the European settlers, and the Warners, must consider their moves very carefully.

Do they live in peace, seeking out an equable life among the natives?

Or do they strike, and conquer those that stand in their way?

As the two cultures of Caribs and Europeans begin to mix, the world as they know it takes a startling turn.

Fraught with romance, skirmishes and political to-ing and fro-ing, the Warners find themselves settlers of new lands, to be called Antigua and St Kitts. But before the settlement is complete, these voyagers must first make their way across many turbulent ‘Seas of Passion'.
