When her employer dies she is out of a job and out of patience with his demanding survivors, Genevieve rashly accepts Lincoln Warfield's offer of a position as his housekeeper. The man speaks so rarely he could be mistaken for a mime. When he does speak and orders her to his room-at bedtime, she is indignant, horrified, interested and wishes he had asked in such a way that she could have accepted. Lincoln is limited in his relationships, his knowledge, experience, and regard of living things is with his livestock not people.
