River Nurse
Matron, from the clinically efficient heights of Southern Cross Hospital, could only be described as scathing when she explained to Sister Maggie Chappy what was in store for her at the much smaller and more intimate establishment of Helping Hands, in its quiet riverside backwater. And when Maggie arrived there she certainly agreed that it seemed to be the most unorthodox hospital in Australia. The staff was small -- only Maggie herself, Doctor Jude Caulder, and kindly Matron Dora, happily dispensing sponge cake and tears of sympathy to her family of patients. But when there was an emergency everyone, even the patients, muscled in and helped. There couldn't have been a greater contrast to the streamlined Sidney hospital -- but Maggie found that its methods were none the less effective for all that!

Hero: Dr./Doctor Jude Caulder
