This set of four slipcase-bound books is the second set in a series that introduces the fundamentals of reading to children from pre-school through grades K and 1. This set's titles review the short-vowel sounds presented Set One, which contains the first five volumes of this comprehensive 18-volume set of basic readers. Using the phonics method, this four-book set reinforces kids' understanding and recognition of words in which short-vowel sounds are dominant. All are Level 1 readers. Lan's Plant and Doc Block present amusing stories with eye-catching color illustrations. The remaining two titles, A Truck Can Help and Can It Live Here? are nonfiction titles featuring bright color photos and amusing “Fun Facts” to supplement reading instruction. Each title also suggests an activity that encourages kids to interact with the book's subject matter. Follow-up material in each of the four books includes a word list, summarizing all the words being taught, plus a letter to parents and teachers explaining the fundamental concepts underlying both the series and the specific title.

The Valu-Pak method of acquiring these readers for $11.97 per set gives the purchaser a savings of $3.99 as compared with purchases of the four books separately, which would cost $15.96. All of the remaining volumes in the Reader's Clubhouse series can also be purchased as sets at comparable savings. The three other Valu-Pak sets that complete the Reader's Clubhouse series are: Level 1 Short-Vowel Valu-Pak (5 volumes); Level 2 Long-Vowel Valu-Pak (5 volumes); and Level 2 Long-Vowel Review Valu-Pak (4 volumes).
