Captain Jo-lac of the freighter Raptor didn't want any complications in her life, but she needed to sign a cargo and get on with business. So when she found herself cheated out of a contract, she was forced to accept a prisoner-transport run from the Military Authority.

But neither the prisoner, Lewis, nor the job were what Jo expected. Though genetically classified a Class Ten -- a virtual vegetable -- Lewis appeared surprisingly normal.
