On a visit to Scotland to find the birthplace of his great-grandmother, Doctor Michael Kenton makes an unscheduled stop at the local hospital to have his appendix removed. He is summoned home before his convalescence is complete, but finds he can’t forget Alisa Jonson, the sister of the ward where he was nursed. Thousands of miles away, she is having similar trouble putting that American patient out of her mind.
