Cassy is surprised when her grandfather leaves her Pennyroyal, a lead mine in Derbyshire. Closed due to a disturbing mining accident, mystery swirls around the incident, and Cassy is determined to get to the bottom of it.

Mining engineer Jake Everand is also trying to discover the truth behind the incident at Pennyroyal. As they follow the trail of clues, Cassy and Jake begin to grow closer, but will differing opinions and growing suspicions about the mining disaster get in the way of their newfound feelings?
