Karen Denton, a professional nurse and amateur camera bug, takes pictures of the Indianapolis 500 car race for her photographer brother, who has hurt is back. While Karen clicks away and several racing-buff friends look on, Gus Bianco, the top racing contender, is killed in a fiery crash.
In the next few days, as Karen entertains her friends at her spacious home, she has reason to believe that the crash was no accident. Then, when the brakes suddenly give out on her car and a suspicious fire breaks out in her brother's darkroom, Karen starts to fear for her own life.
Is there something in her car-racing films that someone wants to suppress at all costs? And could that someone be Peter Everett or Ben March, the two young men Karen finds herself liking in a more and more romantic way?
