Billy Goldman himself wasn't too sure. But his father was going to Europe for six weeks, and this was the first time in three years his mother wrote and asked him to spend the summer with her. Which would have been great -- except that Billy's mother was now a devout member of Omkara, a religious cult in California.

Thanks to her new religion, Billy's mother was no longer depressed, and she didn't drink at all. And Billy, born and bred in Chicago, had always wanted to go to California to see Disneyland.

Unfortunately, Billy didn't get to go anywhere beyond the walls of the religious commune -- let alone travel to Disneyland. Not because he didn't want to see the sights -- but because he wasn't allowed to leave the grounds. And, to make matters worse, no one in his family seemed to care....
