Detective Chief Inspector Browne dismissed the letter as a cruel hoax. Someone was writing to apologise for a murder that hadn't been committed. Someone who called himself "John". Two weeks later someone is found stranged in the local park and Inspector Browne arrives to begin a murder inquiry.
