Gheorghe is asked by George Iorga, head of the Romanian secret police, to find his estranged wife, sent to Spain 16 years previously as punishment. Money is not a problem, but witnesses to the whereabouts of a woman long missing are, especially when two of them are found hanging.

Pepe, ordered to help save la patria by causing an ‘accident' to one of the more effective protestors, wonders if he has the makings of a murderer. Hoping the answer is no, he goes to Jesús for help. Coronel Tinto de Verano of the Guardia Civil thinks he might have had a stroke â€" but he feels too good!

Meanwhile, Jesús inherits a house and garden to give away, and ends up hiding from the mob of people who want to talk to him about it. Finally, a brilliant idea puts the whole of Varigo on a new path...
