Solar flares are now recognised for what they are and, perhaps more importantly, what effects they can have on our world. The first man to see this was someone whose life was almost as strange as the phenomena that he observed. In telling his story I have mostly stuck to the facts because they are almost as interesting as if I had invented them. But like many novelists I have taken liberties and have embroidered the tale a little here and there. I leave it to the reader to determine when I have done this. After all, you can check the facts just as I did.
