Murder on the High 'C'
Womaniser Klaus Kinser, conducting the West Midlands Philharmonic, falls headlong into the orchestra pit, very dead. What looks like a heart attack isn't; his body has surprisingly stopped producing proteins, and Jane Keller is hard pressed to identify the source of the problem. More musicians die, with no apparent motive. Impressively powerful detective work by DCI Tony Dyce and the team finally leads to an electrifying and surprising climax, but even when Tony thinks it is a slam-dunk, the final ironic twist appalls even him.
