A delightful family oriented book set in the late 20's and early 30's around a young Yankee boy who learns he is sole heir--subject to certain conditions--to his Aunt Martha's farm which is located in North Carolina. His arrival to to this Sedate County Seat gives all the appearances of being just that, but the young man is in for many surprises, and being a Yankee doesn't help him to much when it comes to marriageable young ladies and their mothers bent improving their living standards versus local young rebels who don't like competition. From Yankees especially! Then there are the relatives that neither the young man--nor the townsfoks for that matter--know about, who make a sudden appearance at the reading of the will. You will laugh and cry on the same page, and come to love the characters created by the author as they try to perform their sworn duties to the lady who went to the big barnyard in the sky. A great book which should be made into a move. Don't! miss it!
