Magrat's Dagger
Babet, a witch, never expected to become cozy with Prosper, a detective and a Were. But Prosper's at her bungalow more and more, so it's no surprise when he shows up on her doorstep one morning. What is a surprise is a box, inscribed with magic, that he's carried from a fire--the only thing that survived the blaze. He knows it's bespelled, and he knows it's important. But witch magic is beyond him. The dark witch who dug it up is dead. So is her accomplice. The protection spells carved into the box's wooden surface kept it safe. Black magic can't open it or harm it. But when Babet undoes its seals, she and Prosper stare at a dagger, clutched in a mummified hand--the same dagger that was used to vanquish the demon, Jaleel. The same dagger that's destined to return when it's needed once again.
