Nicole is a half-Vietnamese, half-black woman who was abandoned by her family at an early age. She is driven to find out who her parents were, and why they deserted her; in the meantime, she swears that she'll never let anyone get close enough to hurt her again. Xavier is a military policeman who is heartbroken after his wife walks out on him. The two of them are set up by matchmaking friends, and although neither of them wants a committed relationship at first, they enter into an "adult arrangement".
