Longarm's bound for Santiago to retrieve a prisoner -- a young killer by the name of Wesley Wade -- when his stagecoach is attacked. The bushwhackers work for Wade's father, a powerful rancher who aims to stop Deputy U.S. Marshal Custis Long from carrying out his appointed duty.

Leaving a trail of dead men along the stagecoach line, Longarm gets to Santiago and finds his prisoner's been liberated. And the only badge toter fit to help him track down the desperado is the sheriffs beautiful daughter -- a little firecracker named Jessie Peckinpah.
