Murk started to struggle. The ropes were tight, but maybe he could move them a little and escape. One of the passing creatures threw a torch onto the fire as it dashed by. Murk was almost certain he had seen a smirk on its fishy features.
The roaring was getting closer. The dinosaur-like monster that the world knew as a Carversaur would not be long it coming.
The darkness was a ring of fear that could not be broken by his mortal eyes. He could hear the roaring and the woods around him snapping as something big made its way through the forest to where he stood warmly toasting away - much like a marshmallow on a stick hung over the fire.
The monstrous beast broke through the clearings edge. It flew forward with ridiculous speed and came to a halt only hand spans away from Murk.
Its big nostrils flared as it bent low to take in the aroma of cooking human. Murk shied away. It was bigger than he thought it would be. He had only really heard the sounds of these beasts in the night before (being this close and personal gave a whole new edge on his understanding.)
The thing stood five times his height and had to bend low to reach him. It drew back its head as Murk closed his eyes instinctively.
He tasted the flavor of its mouth as the beast's great maw raced down towards him. It was a powerful motion that pushed air down on him and extinguished the flames below him.
