Mrs. Juliana Horatia Ewing, nee Gatty, (1841-1885) was a writer of childrenââ,¬â"¢s stories, daughter of the Rev. Alfred Gatty and Margaret Gatty, also a writer for children. Among her tales, which have hardly been excelled in sympathetic insight into child-life, and still enjoy undiminished popularity, are: Mrs. Overthewayââ,¬â"¢s Remembrances (1869), A Flat Iron for a Farthing (1873), Jan of the Windmill (1873), Jackanapes, Daddy Darwinââ,¬â"¢s Dovecot and Other Stories (1879), We and the World (1881), Old-Fashioned Fairy Tales (1882) and The Story of a Short Life (1885).
