Kirsten Sven finally consented to marry Reidar Magnus Hansen, and to follow the erstwhile Continental Captain nine hundred miles west from her parents' regal home in Philadelphia, to the wilderness of the Missouri Territory. Adjusting to rural life on his five-hundred acre land grant proved to be a challenge for the pampered Nordic princess, as the newlyweds spent their first year in a single-roomed log cabin. This is Kristen's journal, touching on the many joys and struggles during the first five years of her life with Reid, the building of their permanent home, the birth of their first son, Nicolas, and the founding of a community.
