Matt Riordan???s friend, Hugh Prokop, is a nice guy, who has run into bad luck. Prokop???s Seattle marine business has hit a rough patch and now his warehouse has burned down. Inside, the fire department finds a safe filled with a quarter of a million dollars and the crispy corpse of Prokop???s accountant.
