Jodie Mae — Robert G. Rogers

Jodie Mae struggles to overcome the stigma of being born poor. She accepts her fate and vows to climb out of poverty but finds her way blocked by the limitations of Mississippi's male dominated culture in the 40s and 50s. Finally, she decides to fight back take one of the male prizes, the Sheriff. The reaction that followed almost got her killed. She had romances, but they had to take a second seat to her quest to become somebody.
