Uncle Walter and Other Ghosts is the collection of tales about one family, the Smith family, who in the course of events end up adopting thirty or more children over the period of their lives. Jessica Stone is Uncle Walter's niece and was with him at his death. Only Uncle Walter really did not go away but returned to get his six hundred plus novels published and pull a few strings to provide security for his past family. Jessica discovered his manuscripts and something beyond that - the knowledge that Uncle Walter's ghost was still around and that she had access to the world beyond and those other ghosts had scores to settle. This launches Jessica on a track of crime solving and ended up with her getting married to a police detective to give a family to one girl kidnapped for sex slavery at the cost of the death of her parents. Suzy had the task of being the first of the adopted children in the Smith family. There would be many more as it winds through many more novels about the different events in this family's existence.
