ABOUT THE BOOK: After fifty years of hibernation woodchucks emerge from the ground. The creatures cause quite a stir in the small town Byerville, eating everything in sight: small pets, cars, and people become targets when the ravenous woodchucks search for food. Two teenage brothers ans numerous denizons of the small town have outrageous experiences with the toothy invaders--from pandemonium at a radio remote control car race to further chaos and mayhem whenever the gargantuan woodchucks appear. This tall tale type story by Elizabeth Allison brings memories of the old-fashioned tales that were spun by Americans, especially in the South and West while sitting on a dark front porch, late on a Saturday night. It is of the genre of home-spun terror that raises the hairs on the back of your neck just before bringing a smile to your face and plunging you into helpless guffaws of hilarity. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Although Elizabeth Allison has always lived in North Carolina, her thirst for travel has taken her far away from the Southern Piedmont. Australia, Jamaica, Hawaii, San Francisco, and Las Vegas are some of the places that she has visited. Elizabeth enjoys traveling with her husband when he is not racing professional remote control cars. Printing has been her main occupation for many years. Gravure, offset, and flexography have kept her busy and paid for her living expenses. Elizabeth Allison has worked in shops that prepared printing for magazines, brochures, posters, cloth, and labels. Her previous art studies at Appalachian State University and UNCC, gave Elizabeth the basic skills needed to paint and draw. She drew caricatures and painted for festivals. It was fun and creative, but she felt a need to explore other media. For several years, Elizabeth entered small contests and won prizes for her writing skill. A story, about a fast food restaurant, earned her a trip to the Bahamas. One essay gave her a chance to participate in a grill-off. Elizabeth Allison has found the thrill of writing and creating with words endlessly rewarding, enjoy her tale of improbable adventures during the 'Invasion of a Small Town.'
