Linda Fane was in her second year at Bardmore's Hospital when Alan Torringfield was admitted as a patient. Linda had cut herself off from her earlier life, but Alan was a distant relation of hers and also the cause of much of the trouble she wanted to forget. Linda at once saw the treat of complications, as she was on the point of becoming engaged to a young journalist named David Blake, who knew very little of her early background.
