With negotiations involving the EGE in a state of permanent deadlock,  “2” decides to abandon Earth to its fate, leaving a Companion of Himself  behind, perhaps in a vague attempt to stop Rex Mundi from migrating  elsewhere? In the Alliance, in the meantime, a massive programme of  expansion into the Galaxy starts to unfold; “4” is brought to life,  and there's no shortage of plotters and conspiracy theorists at work...  Then, out of the blue: is “3” trying to contact “1”?
