Time seemed to stop, the rotation of the earth halted, nothing moved for just that moment. A drop of sweat fell from Amoss face and splattered in the dust on the ground. A fly flew around Peters head without notice. A rattlesnake slide by Samantha, on the crest of the hill, although she didnt react to it. A tarantula walked across Abigails foot, and although she knew it was there, she did not kick her foot. A rat jumped from the hill and just missed Shastas head and landed on the ground, but she kept her eyes on the outlaw. All sound stopped for an eternity of a few seconds. The sound of the wind blowing through the mesquites could not be heard. It was a dead calm, and even taking a breath seemed to be impossible.
