"I was lying in my bed; it was already late at night, No dreams arrived, though my eyes were shut tight. I turned over my pillow and I turned it once more, But I was still wide awake just like I was before. In this tale, a young boy is finding it hard to sleep. He remembers what his grandma told him; if you have difficulty sleeping try to count sheep. He imagines a meadow with clouds and a bridge over a river upon which there was a flock of sheep waiting to cross in single file. Suddenly, sheep of different colors stop to annoy him. The green one won't stop talking, the red one is afraid of the wolf, and the purple sheep won't stop dancing. Will this colorful passel of ship ever let him sleep? Does the right sheep ever come along? Maybe grandma was wrong.... The rhymes in this book are little complex . Some of the illustrations are done in muted colors to reflect the theme and mood of nighttime and the droopy eyelids of the little boy trying desperately to fall asleep. This book makes a great bedtime story or beginning reader.
