In the distant future in a galaxy far away, genetic engineering is allowed, but there is a catch. It must include strict conditioning to safeguard the status quo. One of the oldest proclamations in the legal code, ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill', is the basis of all genetic programming. But war breaks out, and the Genes have to find a way to defend themselves in a society where crime is improbable, and murder is impossible. On a prison planet after the war is over, the unthinkable happens; a series of killings. Have the ghosts of the past infected the catacombs, or is the unimaginable unfolding, the break-down of genetic conditioning? This is the beginning of an odyssey through the future where the ultimate crime triggers the ultimate sanction.
