Most humans would not accept that their evolution had been paralleled on other planets. Inevitably, this led to a political atmosphere in which most crimes against alien peoples went unpunished.
Fighting at all levels took place to retain the treasures of these other luxuriant worlds. The battles were always political, often bloody, even before the enslaved aliens started to stir.
Scientists were drawn into battles as they moved from space and into the genes and jungles of the Galaxy. Then came the evidence that the horror of epigenetic programming would be the next weapon!
At last someone got creative, one of evolutions less penetrant mutations, by reaching out to all species: A team of just a few were recruited that could take on an organisation, as well as dodge epigenetic programming and the spitting hell of lasers! Their gene scans showed if they could succeed, their deeds showed if they would succeed. The military had to play its part by ignoring politics and prejudices, only then would the Galaxy be in a position to take one of evolutions more peaceful paths, by accepting the genetics and then the rights of alien peoples.
