It seems to Garth Pilgrim, that his life has reached its end when his wife dies of cancer... her relatives blamed him for her death because of the pressures he threw upon her. He endures stress relating to his imprisonment for the killing of his colleague while investigating corrupt politicians.
Then a letter arrives from his good friend Chip, asking Pilgrim to attend a meeting with a wheel-chair bound cripple called Tobias Levy.
