In a stealthy space rendezvous, astronaut Adam MacGregor captures a mysterious derelict rumored to hold a dead cosmonaut. Adam's mission is to refute Moscow's claim that no cosmonaut ever died in orbit, thus emphasizing that Communists lie and cannot be trusted. At stake are wavering votes in the UN for "Open lands," a treaty to inspect for weapons of mass destruction. Russia, returned to Communism, denounces the plan. "Out integrity makes inspection unnecessary " Moscow detects Adam's rendezvous and warns him to retreat. But he presses on and discovers what the Communists have really been hiding: the embarrassing, tragic failure of a sensational, covert, early-days space flight. As the Communists attack, Adam fights for his life and for a chance at undying love with an aroused enemy. Gravity will kill this revenant if she returns to Earth. Both nations, wanting her secret of survival, prepare forces to capture the couple who, defying orders to land, desperately seek options for a future togther.
