Death on Account
In the fourth of the well-reviewed Lakeland Murders series DI Andy Hall and his team are faced with two crimes that differ in almost every way: except both have equally deadly consequences.

A supergrass has chosen to settle in Kendal, on the edge of England's scenic Lake District, but is murdered in broad daylight on the banks of the River Kent. How has his new identity been compromised? Could there be a mole within the ranks of Cumbria Constabulary, or was he just spotted by another villain having a grand day out in one of England's loveliest areas?

Meanwhile, on a far from lovely housing estate on the edge of town, a woman is struggling to care for her handicapped daughter, despite the antisocial behaviour of a neighbour from the very darkest depths of hell. Are the Police able to protect mother and daughter adequately, as they face both budget cuts and the urgent need to discover whether or not they have a mole in their midst?

The first three books in the Lakeland Murders series, the introductory short story The Two Towns and full-length novels Separated at Death and Death on High, are available on Kindle, and have attracted excellent reviews, including this one from Mat Coward, writing in the Morning Star:

'A crime wave to delight every connoisseur. If you like your police procedurals to be thoroughly British then I recommend Separated At Death by JJ Salkeld....Separated At Death is a solidly plotted, well-peopled and a very enjoyable start to what looks like a most promising series.'

And from readers:

'Salkeld is good. Not just as a writer of gripping detective stories; but even more for his feisty exposure of the lunacies of institutions, hierarchies, and power. A refreshing and enlightening anarchist - much needed in these jaded, compliant and consumptive times.'

'It keep you in the story right to the end. Found it difficult to put down . I recommend it .'

'Quick pace, great characters, a joy to read. Must rush and read the next book in the series. The best one of the series so far.'
