When ex-husband Nado P. Sharpe shows up unannounced on her shop's doorstep, sassy Greenwich Village milliner Brenda Midnight puts designing her spirited collection of sun-shielding summer hats on hold. Known for helping any friend in need, Brenda prods the truth out of Nado, who admits he's having trouble with his wife. Before she knows it, Brenda is pulling a favor from chum Lance Chapoppel, a successful noodle designer, who has an unused garage spot in his posh co-op, perfect for Nado's peagreen wreck of a van. Unbeknownst to Brenda, the van also serves as Nado's hotel room, and the next morning her ex wakes up to find a very dead body on the garage floor.
