This summer was Sandy Carson's time for love - until her name forced her into a living nightmare!
The Wild House
It stood on a slight rise, surrounded by the sand, scrub grass growing around the cement foundation. Behind the house was a sharp drop and the ocean pounding against the rocks. Up close, the house seemed bigger, and in disrepair. Broken shingles lay with shards of glass on the ground. The porch was shadowed and forbidding. This house had been built for a bitter tenant...
But for Sandy Carson, it was almost a homecoming. Her father had helped build this house on Jonquil Island a quarter of a century ago. And even though this was her first visit, the island and the house were flooded with memories that belonged to her. But there was something more than happy memories here: something...dangerous. There was bitterness, too; an anger that had grown strong these past twenty-five years...a hatred that struck out now against the daughter of an old enemy, threatening her very life!
Intruder in the Night...
Something made Sandy stop, and stand very still in the darkness. She strained to hear, and heard only the whisper of the ocean. Crickets chirruped. She dug her feet into the warm sand and pushed on.
Now it was unmistakable...the sound of breathing. "Who is it?" she managed to say.
There was no answer. She was terribly alone her, the ocean behind her. She was past the beach house, but still far from her own.
"Mike--?" She tried the name, hoping.
Something told her to run, now! She forced her legs into motion, the sand pulling her back, slowing her. Searing pain shot through her legs; she bit her lip, tasting blood, and made herself to on.
Rocks cut her feet. The house was ahead, up the hill, and she reached out as she ran. Then a hand was touching her shoulder, and the scream finally came, ripping from her throat...
