Jason, an early thirties Sydney lawyer is cuckolded by his wife who divorces him to marry the other man. His life now fallen apart, Jason decides to take a long holiday in the north of Australia. Heading south off the Great Northern Highway in Western Australia to visit Keller Springs, Jason becomes irretrievably lost in the desert. Then his car breaks down. Miles from civilisation, he stays with his car, hoping for rescue and after a week passes, nearly dead, he's found by Meerala, Jalbingie and three other young aboriginal women. They save him from certain death and eventually he travels with them back to their tribe. A tribe who've never seen a white person before. Over the next two years Jason learns the ways of his adopted people, becomes initiated then marries Meerala and her sister Jalbingie. All is going well until an exploration team turns up to explore for gold and diamonds on their tribal lands. This is the start of a chain of events which take Jason and Meerala to Perth to try and have the unknown tribe officially recognised. While in Perth, due to a chain of unfortunate incidents, they run into problems with a local criminal kingpin and have to flee back to their tribal lands. What ensues will forever change the tribe's fortunes and they will never be the same again. Will Jason survive? How will Meerala be instrumental in the final outcome and what happens to the Spanish gold? So, how does this story end and what part does Susan from the Aboriginal Affairs Department play in the subsequent fortunes of the tribe?
