This is a story about a teenage girl, her archaeologist father, a fabulous diamond necklace, a love note from Marie Antoinette, and an ancient Egyptian coffin that enables time travel.

Dana Blaire, age fifteen, visits her father Durrell every summer and works with him is a research assistant in the antiquities department of a well funded private museum.

This summer, her father is responsible for the documentation and display of a rare find from ancient Egypt: a beautifully inlaid coffin and sarcophagus.  It is rare because it represents the contents of a seemingly un-plundered tomb of Anok an Her and more so because it is clear that no one was ever buried in it.

As part of the Dana's duties she aids her father in characterizing and cataloging other antiquities, among them notes and letters from the period of the French Revolution, one of which appears to been written by by none other than Marie Antoinette.  The first clue that something is mysterious about Marie Antoinette's note comes when the writing on the paper appears to fade before Durrell's eyes.  Later, when the lights in the museum flicker and dim as the Egyptian artifacts are assembled, Dana knows she's on the verge of an exciting and mysterious adventure.

Unbeknownst to Dana, Meredith, a character from the future has been using these same Egyptian artifacts as a time-transport device.  From her, Dana learns of the power of the Egyptian coffin and sarcophagus and the task that she alone must perform to repair the very fabric of time.

The notes, apparently from Marie Antoinette's hand, were created in order to implicate her in a forbidden love affair.  Under French law, this would have landed her in prison well before the time French Revolution and as a result removed her influence from the unfortunate financial situation prevailing in France at that time.

Without Marie Antoinette as a symbol of regal decadence, there would been no revolution and no stopping the advance of scientific discovery for which France was noted.  As a result, many of the scientific advances of the early 20th-century would have been accomplished much earlier, thus altering the balance of power among the major nations of the world.

Using the Egyptian time-transport, Dana must return to the time of Marie Antoinette and intercept the forged note before it falls into the wrong hands. This task will not be easy because the note is right in the middle of a conspiracy to defraud a member of the aristocracy who believes he is purchasing the diamond necklace on behalf of Marie Antoinette.

Disguised as the assistant to a fashionable dressmaker, Dana meets the Queen and convinces her that she is in grave danger, but it is Dana who soon finds herself at risk.
