After months of planning on the Governor's part and weeks of preparation on the childrens' parts, Connect With Connecticut Day was finally here. Twenty-five students, along with their teacher, and Governor Hart were going to be spending the day together, learning about and celebrating the unique history and beauty of Connecticut. As the big yellow bus rolled up in front the Capitol building it was hard to contain the excitement felt by all.

"Hey, look!" Matthew shrieked. "There's Governor Hart - she's coming!"

One could almost see the bus lean to the right as all the children dashed over to peer out the windows to see the Governor approaching. "Children," Mrs. Carrington calmly warned, "control, always remember, control!" All of the children reluctantly returned to their seats and tried their best to control their emotions. Suddenly, the bus doors slid open and Governor Hart bounded up the steps. As dignified as she looked dressed in a beautifully tailored navy blue suit, the expression on her face revealed her true feelings - she was just as thrilled about spending the day with them as they were to be with her. "Welcome, everyone," she said with outstretched arms. "I've been looking forward to this day for months." She stood at the head of the aisle, beaming as she glanced around the bus. "Mr. Clemens, I've read every one of your books. You're my favorite author of all times," she said as she extended her hand to Mark Twain. "Ms. Hepburn, your movies are such classics - what an honor it is to meet you," she graciously said with a slight curtsey. "Oh, this is such fun. You all look fantastic!" she added to include everyone. She turned to Mrs. Carrington and said, "Thank you for sharing your students with me today. It certainly looks like you've all done your homework." "We're honored to be here, Governor," Mrs. Carrington replied. "And I'm so happy to have you," she agreed. "Okay, listen up, all you famous Connecticut people. I have an incredible day planned for us with a tour, special food, a treasure hunt, and even some surprises. But the first thing I want to do is meet each of you, so let's start our day in the House of Representatives hall where we can sit down and talk for a while. You can tell me something about you and I can answer any questions you may have about Connecticut. So, if you'd be so kind as to follow me, let's go."
