Peaceable Colonel Sandhurst must confront Sir Randolph Gray, who owes the hotel a vast sum. As the poor relations untangle the outcome of this rash attempt, Frederica is quite content with culinary lessons from their French chef. Until, crossing Bond Street, she stumbles into the arms of darkly handsome Captain Peter Manners. If only she had not put herself beyond the pale by working in the kitchens. Worse yet, the captain -- now besotted with Frederica -- is betrothed to a most domineering lady. It will take all the wit of her hotelier friends, the pranks of Captain Manners' fellow officers, and a fateful case of mistaken identity to rescue the lovers from their tender predicament.
