In a post-apocalyptic city built under the sea, those in power tell Citizens that life is good. They tell them that long ago, the Builders created a safe place for them where they would never have to suffer disease, hunger, disorder or the uncertainty of a random life, a utopia.

Every Citizen knew exactly what qualities they were enhanced for at birth and on exactly what date they would pass in death. In between, their only goal in life was to do exactly the right things in exactly the right ways to gain status and prestige. To be envied by others in Lower World was everything.

Jelan was a rising star. By age 27, he was well on his way to a seat on the Council of Light and people lowered their eyes at his approach. It was wonderful. He was sure he knew the answers to all of life's questions. Until, of course, Leanna, a unique and beautiful Clone, came along and turned his world upside down.

He soon found himself accused of being a Clone sympathizer and a fugitive on the run from Anic and his Security Forces. Instead of displaying his status, he now found himself lost in forbidden caverns and uncovering secrets hidden away for centuries. When there was nowhere else to hide, Jelan had nowhere to go but up.

And that place did not exist... or at least that's what Lower World had been told for 400 years.
