Redhead Kate McGowan knew she should have more pride than to sign on for a Caribbean cruise aboard the Clipper just because Jeff Hale was going to be a passenger. But Kate had been secretly in love with Jeff since her "awkward" teens and she wasn't going to miss this chance to see if that love could ever be returned. Her decision meant postponing any thought of marriage to young Dr. Pete Cole, who resigned himself to letting her "get this silly obsession" out of her system. Unfortunately for Peter, there didn't seem to be much chance of that--the cruise wasn't many hours old before Kate and Jeff were holding hands in the moonlight! But if Kate expected their romance to be smooth sailing ever after, she was wrong. There were a couple of unsuspected, uncharted obstacles; Jeff's possessive sister, Elise, for one, and the ship's doctor...who just happened to be Pete Cole!

Imagine lovely Kate McGowan's delight when she discovers that the man she was admired all her life is taking a cruise to the exotic Caribbean Islands. Since she and Jeff grew up in the same town many years ago, this seems like the perfect opportunity to renew old acquaintances. At the same time, however, Kate has become engaged to Dr. Pete Cole, who naturally does not relish the idea of Kate's interest in seeing Jeff again.

But Kate is a determined young woman, and within a short time she finds herself on a marvelous cargo-passenger ship, the Clipper. Not only does she strike up a renewed relationship with Jeff, but she also becomes involved with several disturbing situations that beset some of her fellow passengers. Quite to her dismay, the ship's doctor turns out to be none other than her erstwhile fiancé, Pete!

"Nell's right, isn't she, about this ship being like a home?" Jeff said.
"I like it better than any other I've ever been on," Kate admitted.
Jeff's eyed danced as he looked down at her.
"May I take that to mean because of the company."
"You may," she said boldly. "I like you very much, Jeff Hale."
He pulled her to him and kissed her. "A darling is what you are."
Kate returned his kiss and smiled. "Beware this shipboard magic--and in bright sunlight too!"
It never occurred to her that she was the one falling under a spell...
