When Claire Northcutt, a journalist, travels to Persimmon, Oklahoma on Route 66 to research an article on The Mother Road, she senses a coverup. Does it concern the local meth head selling drugs to kids, or something even more sinister? Her sometimes boyfriend Holt, undercover with the DEA, is also in Persimmon guarding Austin Veterinarian Renee Trammell, who is hiding in the Witness Protection program and working in a Route 66 diner as Rhonda until she can testify against a brutal Texas drug ring.The two women meet through Holt, and both face the wrath of criminals intent on continuing their evil pursuits.
