In 1991, Spec. 4 William Ellis is sent to investigate a toxic waste dump in the Philippines. But William accidentally kills a boy threatened by a French historian (Vigneux) who is seeking the treasures of a primitive clan. Suffering a nervous breakdown, William begins living in the wilderness, where he nearly dies during a volcano eruption. Though he never fully recovers, William lives peacefully in Florida until 12 years later when Vigneux confronts him with new facts of that long-sought treasure. Compelled to finally settle his past, William follows Vigneux to a hidden paradise in the Andes. Vigneux is seeking uncountable wealth, William hopes to find common peace, but only one man will return alive.
