An escaped I. W. W. convict lost in Death Valley and fainting from thirst encounters in imagination a group of pioneers of '49. Their amazed appreciation of the wonders of his generation-trains, automobiles and hospitals, which they learn of through his Sunday paper - makes his quarrel that some have more than others seem so petty that after his rescue he repudiates the creed before his old gang and dies a martyr to the cause of order. Contains some matchless descriptions of the desert. Appeared in the "Red Book. "
