Bad Juju — Judith Post

Two women disappear in River City, dragged from their houses to the water. The first practiced Juju, the second -- voodoo. When owls hoot warnings of a monster in the swamp, Babet and Prosper realize the monster must have taken the women. But why? Is he Juju cursed? What does he hope their magic will do? Or does he want them for other reasons?
