The Hunter: The Awakening, is the first of a series of novels that will explore the nature of good and evil and the question of redemption: Is it available to those who have perpetrated great evil, even if they have been duped into doing so? Not long after a fearsome beast steals a leather-bound book from a hidden hillside tomb in LA, an emaciated man with a hole in his chest, falls from a cliffside trail into the backyard of young, pregnant, neurosurgeon Melisa Castro. When she touches the man, she has a vision of him being stabbed. Witnessing the man's rapid healing, Melisa is torn between believing what she saw and trust in her reality. Needing to help the man she calls “John Doe” she ignores her misgivings and has the man transferred to the hospital where she directs a pharmaceuticals research laboratory. Melisa's fiancé, Chris Kosmatka, is the leader of a pack of seven brothers, the sons of Aleksy, a werewolf who years ago gave up his immortality and now wants it back. Chris confronts his father and accuses him of encouraging youngest son Alex of challenging Chris's leadership of their family's pack. Aleksy mocks Chris for having chosen a human mate and asks if Chris has yet told Melisa of his true nature and the fact she is carrying a werewolf baby. In the meantime, a young man named John Sullivan approaches an antiques dealer named Tobias Hudson with an unusual item to sell: an ancient “Bollocks Dagger,” which he had found in the same hidden hillside tomb. Soon, a vampire who no longer has a hunger for blood comes seeking the blade to rectify the awakening of something fearsome: The Hunter.
