When sixteen-year old Rivers Garrison boarded the steamboat Grand Lady, she fell in love with three things--the aristocratic grandson of the ship's owner, the ship itself, and the river.
These loves stayed with her always, and shaped her life. Then the lush green Mississippi summer came to a terrible end in Vicksburg, one of the bloodiest battles of the War Between the States.
