The year is 1860 and life is simple for young John Wilson who runs his father's blacksmith shop in a small Kentucky town. But when John falls for his childhood friend, the beautiful Anne Stone, things begin to change drastically. As the young couple becomes more and more attached, the Civil War begins when the first shots are fired at the battle of Fort Sumter. Not wanting to be parted forever, John and Anne marry. Then John sets off to join the Union Army. Both Anne and John must set out on their own personal journeys of triumphs, struggles, and losses. Their faith and innocent love will be tested throughout the long years of the war as their home and way of life falls apart. Will they ever be united again? Will their love and faith sustain them as they struggle to survive the terrible war?
