One of the earliest books I can remember reading, and one that I’ve read again at least twice. If you haven’t read it (and I don’t know how you could have missed it if you are a reader, as it seems to be almost ubiquitous in English), then don’t delay. It has everything that makes prose fun: a fascination with wordplay, world building, and tomfoolery, all wrapped up in a nice package. To be able to come up with such imaginative characters that stick with you, like the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, the March Hare, the Mad Hatter. Carroll had an incredible knack for it. The only person I feel who’s matched him since was L. Frank Baum in the Oz stories.
